Since the late 1960's our club has provided the Ames area with public service activities including nursing home visits, demonstrations on dog health, training and breed information.

Throughout the years we have dedicated ourselves to informing the public about selecting and training a canine companion that will be a joy to own.

AKC Companion Animal Recovery Search & Rescue Grant Awarded to Local Organization

In support of the Search–and-Rescue (SAR) Canines and their volunteer handlers, who perform vital work in times of emergency and natural disaster, the AKC Companion Animal Recovery (CAR) Support and Relief Fund recently awarded their annual SAR grants worth $258,000 to more than 100 groups in 40 states. On behalf of AKC CAR, the Cyclone Country Kennel Club of Ames, an AKC affiliated club, presented Paws of Life Foundation with a check for $2,000 on June 2, 2012.

The Paws of Life Foundation (PoL) is dedicated to the education of working dog handlers which include search and rescue (SAR) dogs and their handlers. PoL works with agencies at the local level to fund and provide training to working dog handlers and professional volunteer canine handlers. By providing initial and continuing training of the handler, PoL can help these individuals and their canine partners become a reliable and valuable resource for law enforcement and public safety agencies.

The AKC/CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund is a permanent charitable fund which provides resources, support and other assistance to not-for-profit animal shelters and similar not-for-profit organizations providing care for domestic animals orphaned or displaced as a result of natural or civil disasters. The Fund has donated over $3 million since it’s inception in 2002 in the wake of the 9/11 tragedies. For more information about AKC CAR or the Fund, visit www.akccar.org.
